Background

Experience

Operating experience that shaped how I analyze businesses, and academic training that structured how I communicate that analysis.

General Manager & Co-founder

Detergent Manufacturing Company • Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

2020 – 2025 • Full-time Operating Role

Co-founded and managed a detergent manufacturing operation from the ground up. As General Manager, I held full responsibility for all operational, commercial, and financial functions of the business — including production planning, procurement, cost management, team leadership, and customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Led procurement strategy for imported and domestic raw materials, managing supply chain risk in a volatile foreign exchange environment
  • Designed production schedules to optimize throughput while managing working capital constraints
  • Built and managed the P&L, with direct accountability for margin performance and cost reduction targets
  • Developed commercial relationships with wholesale and retail distributors across regional markets
  • Managed a team of production staff, logistics personnel, and administrative support
  • Designed financial reporting systems and operating dashboards to support management decision-making
  • Navigated regulatory compliance requirements for manufacturing operations in Ethiopia

What This Built

This role gave me first-hand experience with the full operating reality of a business — the supply chain dependencies, cost structure pressures, working capital dynamics, and the human capacity constraints that determine execution outcomes. It fundamentally shapes how I approach business analysis today: with respect for what is actually hard about running a business, not just what looks clean on a slide.
